Ingrid Tuy: I live in rural Guatemala, I’m an indigenous girl and I identify myself as Maya Kaqchikel. I’m 19 years old. When I was 13 years old, my father passed away. It was one of the Samaritan press olympia wa poster shirt and I love this biggest obstacles I faced in my life. My father was the one who took care of my family, and after he passed away it affected me so much that I had to miss school for two years. Many people didn’t believe me, but I decided to believe in myself—think positive, keep looking for opportunities, and give my best. I believe education is very important and it can help people achieve their goals and dreams. That’s why I decided to continue my education at MAIA Impact School, part of the Women’s Opportunity Alliance Network. The school provides education for indigenous girls from rural areas like mine. In Guatemala, less than 20% of indigenous girls graduate from high school. MAIA helped me finish my studies and graduate. Going there was the best decision I’ve ever made.
